P1 Marine Foundation announces new ambassador in the UK

London 11th December:Today P1 Marine Foundation has announced the appointment of its first UK ambassador, Duncan Johnstone.

Duncan is currently the P1 Aqua X jet ski series 250 class champion and has been competing since 2011, with 16 year’s experience in the sport. Born in Thurso, in the far north of Scotland, he is now based on the south coast working for Virgin Media.

“We are very excited that Duncan has joined us; he is a great addition to the frontline team as he will enable us to reach an even broader audience to help spread the message of marine conservation and promote environmental stewardship.” said Sabrina Taseer, P1 Marine Foundation's Projects Manager

Speaking from his home in Fareham, Duncan said “I love getting out on The Solent and I’m lucky enough to jet-ski here all year round. It is one of the busiest stretches of water in Europe with commercial shipping, ferries and leisure craft of all types and sizes but there’s so much scope here. I can go out with friends on 80 or 100 mile trips along the coast or right around the Isle of Wight. I never get bored, it’s an ever changing environment and often challenging which makes it the perfect place to practice for Aqua cross! Over the years I’ve been lucky to see a few dolphins and seals; and often on rides out I’ll spot something bobbing in the water that shouldn’t be there - a plastic bottle, a carrier bag, the odd polystyrene cup. I’ll lean over the side, hook it up and chuck it in the front stowage compartment. I don’t think about it, I just do it, clunk goes the lid and off we go again.

“I'm honoured to be asked to become an ambassador for the P1 Marine Foundation and believe if everyone was as like-minded out on the water collectively we can help make a big difference to the marine environment” added Duncan.

Duncan joins Ashley Sponaugle who became an ambassador for the Foundation earlier this year. Ashley’s focus is on encouraging environmental responsibility through events and campaigns in Florida.

In the coming year, Duncan will provide support to the Foundation’s activities in the UK. Follow Duncan on Twitter here: @DunkDude42
