At the weekend in Torquay, the P1 Marine Foundation powerboat racing team of James Norvill and Christian Parsons-Young, finished runners up in this year's P1 SuperStock UK national championship after recording their first victory in the opening race on Saturday.

This is great news for the Foundation as their success has created huge interest for the charity with the stunning branded boat racing in the P1 SuperStock series both in the UK and across the Atlantic in the USA.

An important aim for the Foundation is to create awareness and involve key audiences such as young people and the business community. This has been achieved both at the race events and associated online activity.

The Foundation uses the race weekends to engage with the local community through activities such as beach clean ups and creative sessions for local youngsters aimed at increasing awareness and knowledge of our oceans. Last Friday the Foundation joined forces with Living Coasts to stage a beach clean up at Beacon Cove in Torquay. Items collected were recorded for the Marine Conservation Society to identify where the litter comes from so the problem can be tackled.

Next weekend Welshman James Norvill who pilots the Foundation's boat in the SuperStock series in the United States, will be flying to Orlando to compete at Port Canaveral on Florida's Space Coast.

During that weekend the P1 Marine Foundation team in Florida, run by marine biologist Rene Goytia, will be staging a beach clean up in Cocoa Beach. If you would like to get involved please sign up here: www.p1marinefoundation.com/events.ink

The P1 Marine Foundation race team will then move on to Marathon for the last race of the P1 SuperStock USA series on the 14-15th September.
