Helping to keep the coast clean in Torquay

Today P1 Marine Foundation and Living Coasts joined forces for a beach clean up in Torquay.

Volunteers from Living Coasts Coast Club and Working Links headed to Living Coasts to help clean up the litter on the pebbled beach nearby. The beach debris collected included plastic bottles, lollipop sticks, red bull cans, plastic bottle caps, and rope.

All those that participated in the beach clean up were also asked to record the items that were picked up. The data will be sent to the Marine Conservation Society as part of their ongoing records to identify where the litter comes from so the problem can be tackled.

Beach clean ups are an established part of the Foundations coastal activity, as one of the most serious threats to marine wildlife is the waste.

Living Coasts is a coastal zoo owned by Paignton Zoo as part of the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust. It is a registered charity, and is based around sea birds and other coastal wildlife.
